Continuous PO2 and PCO2 monitoring in the neonate.

چکیده
From the physiological point of view it is important to stress that the c l i n i c a l l y interesting ränge for Pco2 is much smaller than for Po2· So, in pr inc ip le , the accuracy and reproducibi l i ty of the technique has to be better than with transcutaneous Po2Furthermore, because the Co2 molecule reacts with water and carbonic acid is formed slowly dissociating into H and HCos", the electrode cannot respond äs rapidly äs the Po2 nor can small or rapid changes in Pco2 be detected.

Acid-base pathophysiology in the neonate and infant.
The acid-base status of the fetus during the first stage of labor is a mild acidosis with moderate hypercapnia and a “numerically” severe hypoxemia (in which physiological adjustments allow for normal development). During the process of normal delivery, a transient asphyxia develops resulting in a more acidotic pH, severe hypercapnia, and a further decrease of the partial pressure of oxygen (Po...
متن کاملClinical evaluation of a new in-line continuous blood gas monitor.
Two methodologies for obtaining accurate blood gas and electrolyte values during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) are traditional laboratory analyzers, which use an electrochemical technology, and continuous in-line monitoring systems, which use a fluorometric and/or spectrophotometric technology. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the accuracy of a new continuous in-line monitor, the...

Background: Umbilical cord blood gas analysis is a useful method for assessment of oxygenation and acid-base status in neonates. Severe fetal acidemia is associated with increased perinatal mortality and increased risk of subsequent impaired neurological development. Due to high percentage of C/S in our country and the effect of anesthetic medications on umbilical blood gases which can cause ne...
متن کاملClinical assessment of a continuous intraarterial blood gas monitoring system.
We evaluated the clinical performance of a continuous intraarterial blood gas monitoring (CIABG) system which includes a fluorometric intravascular sensor. Seventeen patients undergoing elective surgery were monitored perioperatively with the CIABG system (PB3300; Puritan Bennett, Carlsbad, CA). Conventional laboratory blood gas analyses (BGA) were performed simultaneously whenever indicated, a...
متن کاملCorrelation of simultaneously obtained capillary, venous, and arterial blood gases of patients in a paediatric intensive care unit.
AIMS To investigate the correlation of pH, partial pressure of oxygen (PO2), partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PCO2), base excess (BE), and bicarbonate (HCO3) between arterial (ABG), venous (VBG), and capillary (CBG) blood gases. METHODS Patients admitted to the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) in Cukurova University between August 2000 and February 2002 were enrolled. RESULTS A tota...
